MISSION STATEMENT
Our mission is to improve outcomes associated with addiction-prone substances through community outreach and research.

MESSAGE FROM CEO
TSRG continues to be in a growth phase. As we head into giving season, we are launching a quarterly newsletter so we can share our successes and progress in a consolidated format. The year 2021 was filled with grant writing, researching, and writing journal articles, collaborations with local public health departments in southern rural Colorado and metropolitan Denver, and administrative and technological development. This growth could not have been accomplished without the support of our friends, family, and devoted colleagues. Here are some highlights.
We have two recent journal article submissions:
- “Perceived Impact of COVID-19 on Prevention, Treatment, Harm Reduction, and Recovery Services for Opioid Use Disorder: National Survey of Local Health Departments.”
- “Racial/Ethnic Disparities in the Availability of Opioid Use Disorder Services: A Cross-Sectional Analysis of Local Health Jurisdictions.”
- We have secured $63k in Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) funding in partnership with the Pueblo Department of Public Health and Environment.
- Our student internship program is part of our business model. We identify bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral students who are interested in learning about research on substance use or have a specific interest in public health policy. In both 2020 and 2021, we had three student interns who have been an essential part of our work.
There is so much to be grateful for this giving season. Thank you for your support. We hope you will follow our progress in finding solutions to the substance abuse crisis.
CELEBRATING DR. WRIGHT!
Since our earliest days, Dr. Steve Wright has been our medical expert, advisor, and champion. He generously shared 40 years of expert knowledge and wisdom from practicing addiction medicine. If we needed a medical interpretation of our ideas or a journal article reviewed before submitting for publication, Dr. Wright provided unwavering support. He retired in October 2021, but his passion for improving addiction medicine and health continues on with all of us who had the privilege of working with him.
He shared some parting thoughts in his last days working with us that we would like to share.
“What I really enjoyed and found to be valuable to me is that you and the members of TSRG are an organization that looks at the science critically, very fairly, and does not bend the literature towards bias, but addresses it as it is.”
“231 years ago, the proposal that addiction is a disease was novel and subversive. Today that concept upends notions of will and of choice … and saves millions.”
“Thank you for the work you carry forward for our communities, our neighbors – those we now know and those we do not yet know. Thank you for walking me home.”
Thank you for helping us create TSRG, Dr. Wright!

Giving Season 2021
TSRG’s first Giving Season is here! While most of our funding comes from grant writing, every donor dollar helps TSRG pay its student research assistants and for operating expenses such as accounting, bookkeeping, and technology costs (software, webhosting, content development).
The Microsoft Alumni Network has created donor incentives for our friends from Microsoft, as part of the Giving Tuesday campaign. They have created a $ 100,000 stretch pool for all donations received that will be shared with the nonprofits. Last year, the dollars donated were amplified by 30%. You can donate between November 30th and December 3rd on the Microsoft Alumni Network Give platform here (link)
First Bank, the sponsor of Colorado Gives, has created donor incentives. TSRG will automatically be entered for a random drawing to win a grand prize of $15,000 if 30 donors contribute at any dollar amount. We hope you will consider supporting us as part of Colorado Gives Day, Tuesday, December 7th, here (link) where you donate where you live.
